FAQ

Is O'Briens Aveda Institute an accredited school?

Yes, we are accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences.

Do I have to attend Saturdays or evenings? Will my schedule change? I have a part-time job.

Our cosmetology day program runs Tuesday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM. You may stay until 4:30 if you wish---it's optional. Our barbering and massage day program runs Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Am I required to find my own clients for the school clinic?

No, we market our clinic so that you don't have to worry about that.

What are the graduation requirements?

You must complete the required clock hours, have an academic average of 75 or above, pass your final and written exams, and pay in full all of your financial obligations to O'Briens (this includes overtime charges).

After I graduate, will I get my license?

After you graduate, you will then be entitled to apply for the Vermont State Board exam. If you pass all three sections, you will receive your license.

Where are state board exams held?

State Board exams will be held right here at O'Briens during 2008. For more information about the state board exam, please go to Prometric's website.

Is it difficult to pass the state board exam?

Our instructors have years of experience preparing students to take the state board exam. Over the entire course you will be getting instruction on how to pass your exam. Your final mock board exam will be an exact simulation of the state board (some grads say it's harder than the actual exam!) It's our job to make sure you're ready.

Will O'Briens help me to find a job after graduation?

During your training here at O'Briens, you will receive special classes such as resume writing, interview tips, and business management. We also have resources available to let you know of salon openings in the area you would like to work. Did you know that O'Briens Aveda Institute is affiliated with over 20 salons throughout Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine?
